Making new science possible.

At Quantum Detectors (QD) the mission is simple but important: Since 2007 we have been taking novel detector technology developed at world leading scientific facilities and making it accessible to all. This ensures best use of the original time and investment in developing these products, and most importantly, supplies scientists globally with the tools required to drive research forward and try new technology for new science.

About us

QD is a spinout from the Science and Technology Facilities Council and Diamond Light Source, the UK’s synchrotron. These partners have an excellent internationally acclaimed track record in the development of both detection technology and turnkey detector systems.

Quantum Detectors is registered as a UK limited company – 05575019.

Carbon neutrality

Quantum Detectors are committed to playing our part in looking after our environment and playing our part in reaching the reductions in greenhouse gas output required to meet the Paris Agreement targets. While our equipment improves scientific discovery rates and therefore plays a part in propelling the human race to use resources more efficiently, an unavoidable part of our business involves travelling to meet people and install hardware and other carbon emitting practices. Our emissions of greenhouse gases have been calculated using QAS approved and independently audited mechanism to which we added a substantial contingency. We have then bought credits to offset these from Carbon Footprint, a UK based provider of offset projects accredited by: Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), Gold Standard CERs, Gold Standard Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). We have chosen to support projects which offer addition societal benefits and larger projects which avoid emission equally.

Development | Strength in partnership

Quantum Detectors will continue to bring existing and future detection developments to the wider scientific and commercial markets from Diamond and the STFC, but in addition to this, Quantum Detectors collaborates with other large scale facilities such as the ESRF, and also academic institutes such as the University of Glasgow. This broad range of sources for technology enables Quantum Detectors to offer the most appropriate selection of products to scientific laboratories.  If you have a new product or a new requirement not served by the products listed on our site, please get in touch, as we may be able to help.

Outreach

QD feels responsibility to encourage interest in STEM roles from an early stage in education, and to give an alternative experience of working roles in science not confined to an academic career progression. If you are looking for work experience in a commercial, scientific, gender equal environment, please get in touch.

Careers

A thriving, dynamic company, Quantum Detectors is the product of collaboration between Diamond Light Source and the Science and Technology Facilities Council, one of the UK’s 7 research councils. Quantum Detectors is based at the Harwell Oxford science campus. Consider a career at QD.
