The MerlinEM Hybrid Pixel Detector (HPD) is an advanced detector development in the field of Electron Microscopy, combining direct detection of electrons and rapid readout in a pixelated format ideal for applications such as 4D STEM and TEM dynamic imaging.
Each sensor pixel is individually bump-bonded to an intelligent chip which uses threshold discriminators to distinguish electrons from the background, effectively eliminating all readout noise. This allows for integral mode imaging where multiple short exposure images are acquired and summed together. Uniquely, neighbouring pixels can communicate to mitigate charge-sharing effects, and this, combined with the direct detection of electrons, yields enhanced performance. As beam energies decrease toward 60 keV, the Merlin for EM has been shown to provide near-ideal DQE and MTF detector response.

Xspress 3 mini
Xspress 3 mini is the new compact version of the popular high-speed fluorescence detector readout Xspress 3. It provides the same performance as a full sized Xspress 3 in a more compact enclosure. This means that Xspress 3 mini is capable of readout at > 4Mcps count rates, allowing for more efficient use of available photons. Xspress 3 Mini also features a unique variable front end. This means the readout can be matched to the detector without the need for hardware intervention and in an automated fashion. This allows Xspress 3 mini to be plug and play with multiple detectors. Xspress 3 mini is also provided with an extensive software suite that allows the readout system to be commissioned and calibrated via a user friendly web based UI. It is also supported by drivers for the synchrotron industry standard control systems TANGO and EPICS. Xspress 3 mini is targeted at customers with low channel count detectors where Xspress 3 was historically outside of their price range. Xspress 3 mini provides an opportunity for these customers to significantly improve throughput of their SDD or HPGe detectors at a reasonable cost. Zebra Timing Control System
All-In-One Box Allowing Signal Conversion, Logic Gating, Position Capture, And Triggering. Zebra is a digital signal level converter and position capture unit. The front panel takes signals from multiple single channel inputs in TTL, LVDS, PECL, NIM or Open Collector format, converts the levels to LVTTL and passes the signals to an FPGA. The rear panel passes encoder signals to the FPGA input via Sub-D connectors. The FPGA implements logic gates and position capture circuitry, then signals are translated to be output in the same format as their respective input. The system was designed by the Diamond Controls Group and the unit has seen great success at Diamond across many beamlines from tomography to MX and EXAFS, the unit simplifies and enables more flexibility at once
